Novitec’s Subtle Enhancements for the Ferrari 812 Competizione

Novitec, a renowned name in the world of supercar tuning, often elicits strong opinions; you either love their audacious modifications or find them too extravagant. However, their approach to the Ferrari 812 Competizione is unexpectedly restrained, focusing on performance enhancements rather than garish visual upgrades.

When it comes to aesthetics, Novitec’s offerings are limited to a set of dual-spoke forged wheels. These wheels accommodate wider rubber, with 275/30 R21 tires up front and 335/25 R22 tires at the rear. For context, the stock tires measure 275/35 R20 at the front and 315/35 R20 at the rear. Since Ferrari designed the 812 Competizione around Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires in these precise dimensions, leaving the tire-wheel combination unaltered is advisable.

Novitec’s enhancements extend to practical elements such as titanium lug bolts, a set of performance springs, a hydraulic lift system for the front axle, and aluminum spacers to widen the track by up to 40 millimeters (1.57 inches) per axle.

Now, for the more exciting part, Novitec offers a performance-focused exhaust system, available in stainless steel, Inconel, or even gold-plated Inconel. This exhaust pairs exceptionally well with a set of sport catalytic converters, which can be equipped with or without gasoline particulate filters (GPFs). GPF technology became mainstream due to Euro 6 regulations, aiming to reduce fine particulate emissions.

Novitec’s ultimate enhancement for the 812 Competizione, at least for now, comes in the form of a device designed to clear any error codes and warning lights triggered by the high-flow catalytic converters. This device goes by the name “Tectronic.”

These sportier exhaust components, catalytic converters, and the Tectronic device combine to boost the naturally-aspirated V12 engine’s output from the stock 610 kW (830 ps) to an impressive 637 kW (866 ps). In terms of mechanical horsepower, that translates to 819 horsepower before modifications and 854 horsepower after. Unfortunately, Novitec hasn’t disclosed pricing details for these enhancements.

In reality, anyone fortunate enough to own an 812 Competizione probably won’t be concerned about the cost of these upgrades. After all, this coupe comes with a staggering price tag of 499,000 euros (approximately 543,685 dollars).

While this might seem steep for a front-engined grand tourer, it’s essential to remember that the Competizione represents the pinnacle of the 812 series and could be the final iteration before the F167 model makes its official debut. The F167 is expected to hit dealer showrooms in 2024, and although camouflaged prototypes suggest some design cues inspired by the Roma, the final aesthetic remains a well-guarded secret as of now.

Ferrari unveiled the 812 Competizione in May 2021. According to Ferrari’s H1 2023 report, production of the 812 Competizione A is currently in full swing. The “A” stands for “aperta,” Italian for open, denoting a targa-topped convertible variant with a price tag of 578,000 euros (approximately 629,800 dollars).

The 812 Competizione holds the distinction of being Ferrari’s most performance-oriented grand tourer ever, succeeding models like the F12tdf and the 599 GTO. It relies on a 6.5-liter V12 engine, a naturally-aspirated powerhouse with roots tracing back to the 6.0-liter V12 found in the iconic Enzo supercar from the early 2000s.
