Ferrari F430

The Ferrari F430 is a sports car that was produced by the Italian automobile manufacturer Ferrari from 2004 until 2009, taking over from its predecessor, the Ferrari 360. Unveiled at the 2004 Paris Motor Show, it featured exterior and performance changes that set it apart from its predecessor.

Performance

Underneath all this sleek bodywork lies power; a 4.3-liter V8 engine belonging to Ferrari-Maserati’s F136 family – a significant change for Ferrari, who previously used engines derived from Dino racing programs dating back to the 1950s.

The 4.3 liter V8 delivers an impressive 483 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque. Despite a 20% increase in displacement, the engine has grown in weight by only 4 kg (8.8 lb), thanks to its smaller diameter for easier fitment.

As a result of new and improved connecting rods, pistons, the crankshaft, and the lightweight construction, the F430 boasts an incredible top speed of 196 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds – 0.6 seconds faster than its predecessor.

To ensure maximum safety and performance during driving, Ferrari worked closely with Brembo and Bosch to develop a special cast iron alloy for the disc brakes on the F430. As an additional option, customers could also opt for a Carbon fiber-reinforced Silicon Carbide ceramic composite brake package, which had no problem surviving 300-360 laps at Ferrari’s test track without fading or failing in any way whatsoever.

The car is also fitted with Ferrari’s revolutionary E-Diff system – a computer-controlled limited slip active differential which continuously adjusts torque output according to inputs such as steering angle, lateral acceleration, and more. Drivers can select from five different settings on their manettino wheel-mounted control knob, which modifies various aspects such as ESC system behavior, Skyhook electronic suspension response rate, and more for maximum performance customization.

Design

The design for the F430 was created in collaboration between Pininfarina and Frank Stephenson (Director of Ferrari-Maserati Concept Design and Development). The exterior body styling was revised to improve its aerodynamic efficiency while maintaining the same drag coefficient.

Though sharing mainly the same aluminum chassis, roofline, doors, and glass as the 360, the F430 looked significantly different from its predecessor. Many elements of Ferrari’s heritage were included in this new design; looking to the rear; you will find similarities with Enzo’s tail lights and engine cover vents.

Upon closer inspection, you can spot an etching of the car’s name on the Testarossa-styled driver’s side mirror. The large oval openings featured in the front bumper have also been taken directly from Ferrari racing models of years gone by – most notably seen on 156′ shark nose’ Formula One cars.
