The Mercedes SL series stands as an icon of the automotive world, tracing its origins back to the legendary 1950s 300 SL. A true collectible, the 300 SL’s value rivals the fortunes found in casinos. The SL legacy continued to evolve through the decades, with each generation refining its design, performance, and prestige. In 2021, the R232 generation marked the first iteration developed by Mercedes-AMG, introducing novel features and design elements.
The R232, unveiled in late 2021, heralded a new era for the Mercedes SL series. Incorporating modern elements while paying homage to its heritage, the R232 brought new dimensions to the roadster experience. Notable features included rear seats suitable for individuals up to 4 feet 11 inches tall, an innovative rag top that opens and closes in just 15 seconds, and enhanced cargo capacity to accommodate two golf bags. The interior boasted cutting-edge amenities, from an expansive infotainment system and digital dials to ambient lighting, leather upholstery, and innovative warm air circulation in the headrests.
Under its sleek hood, the top-of-the-line Mercedes-AMG SL 63 was a true powerhouse. Its 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine churned out an impressive 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, propelling the car from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds. With a top speed of 196 mph, the SL 63 combined exhilarating performance with the sophistication of a luxury roadster.
The SL 63, however, caught the attention of renowned tuner Mansory, known for its bold enhancements on luxury vehicles. Mansory’s touch on the SL 63 added not only increased power but also a distinctive visual makeover. The P850 configuration boasted an astonishing 838 hp, while the P720 variant still pushed out an impressive 710 hp. This power boost resulted in faster acceleration times and higher top speeds.
Mansory’s transformation extended to the exterior, where carbon fiber elements infused the roadster with an aggressive and striking appearance. The grille, hood, side mirror casings, fender flares, diffuser, and tailpipes all underwent Mansory’s expert touch, creating an even more dynamic aesthetic. The interior received attention as well, featuring white leather upholstery with diamond quilting, aluminum sports pedals, carbon inlays for the seats, and new floor mats.
While the Mansory-modified SL 63 radiated with uniqueness and power, enthusiasts could also admire its all-black variant. Despite its unparalleled enhancements, Mansory put the modified roadster up for sale, although the exact price remained undisclosed. Notably, the base SL 63 commanded a price tag of nearly €200,000 in Germany and started at $178,100 in the US.
